A mistake many people make is to try dainty prints or lacy pillow cases on a super size bed with a king size headboard and this does not work. It is best with furnishing this large to go with simplicity. Stick with bold prints or deep rich colors. With a bed this large a masculine look will be the best, so browns, deep gold, dark blue or deep greens will work well. A neat floor length sham without any ruffle can work, but if the floor is in good condition the sham can be done away with completely for a very clean austere impression.

For a large bed, the best choices are the ones that convey strength. Oak, leather, walnut, birch, and pine would all look very attractive as very large headboards. The fun part is making the choice.
