4ft Headboards
If you have a King, Queen, or Double bed you will need a larger than average headboard. The amount of space you have left over becomes an important consideration. Having too little space left over causes the room look stuffy and makes having a large room useless. You will want to look at the space, the style and colors you need for the headboard. If you have the room and want to go all out and look for large size 4ft headboards then be sure of the design you want and make the best use of the space.
Measuring for 4ft Headboards
If you want a 4ft headboard then take a look at the wall nearest to where the bed will be. Measure 4 feet up and see where this hits. If this is more than halfway up the wall, then look for the highest point on the ceiling. You will want to place the bed directly under this highest point. This is the best chance of keeping the room’s depth as much as possible. Should this look too awkward then look for the lowest point of the ceiling and avoid placing the bed under this area. Also keep any furniture that is taller than the headboard spread out so the room does not look overwhelmed.
Colors for 4ft Headboards
When using larger furniture it is usually a good idea to go with conservative or even masculine colors and shades. Deep wood shades and rich warm tones are best with something as large as 4ft headboards. Conservative colors like white, beige, or ivory can also work well. Exotic notes like purple or light greens are not recommended, because they can easily overpower a room when something that size is involved.
Designs for 4ft Headboards
Designs for something as large as a 4ft headboard, might not be as difficult to find as it might seem because it does not have to be a heavy oaken piece of furniture. Brass, wrought iron, or light weight wood can also be used. This makes it easy to match for style. If you have a Victorian style bedroom and want the heavy oaken look you can find many 4ft headboards that have the appearance, but not necessarily the heft of that style. These reproductions are the same height, but while sturdy they do not have the weight that might be problematic for a second floor bedroom.
A 4 ft headboard can also be antique brass with a dainty fit and feel that will not crowd the furniture in front of it or the wall behind it. With this type of design, you can have a tall feel with the headboard, but you still have plenty of room behind the bed and near the wall. Last, when looking for bed accessories for this large a bed and headboard it is the best bet to look for larger than normal items like overstuffed pillows or throws.
